Spencer Dinwiddie Crowdfunds Money To Let Fans To Decide Which Team He Should Sign With

Spencer Dinwiddie has always been one of the most entertaining players on social media. Whether it’s arguing with fans about LeBron James, or just putting out controversial statements in general, following Dinwiddie’s channels is a definite recommendation.

His newest idea though is unheard of in the NBA world. Dinwiddie is crowdfunding money from fans for his next contract, and he’ll sign with whatever team they want him to for the veteran’s minimum.

“I’m simply creating this GoFundMe as my commitment to my previous tweets. As of now 2625.8 BTC is roughly equivalent to $24,632,630 USD.  If we hit the target then I will allow the fan base to determine my next team decision and sign a one year contract at that destination. If we do not hit the target goal then I will be donating 100% of this campaign to charity. Fan engagement comes in all shapes and sizes, lets have fun folks!”

While the guard won’t be a free agent until next summer (he then would have to decline his $12,302,496 player option), he hasn’t set a time limit. In a statement, the Brooklyn Net revealed the idea behind this ‘one of a kind endorsement deal’.

“Shoe companies and endorsers influence team decisions all the time. My/our biggest endorsers will always be the fans, so I want to have some fun with this while we’re all under quarantine. I hop no owners/team personnel participate so there’s no impropriety on this one of a kind endorsement deal.”

While this all is pretty hypothetical due to the high amount that most likely won’t be raised, it definitely is an interesting approach. It definitely would be a great bargain for whichever team would be able to sign a guard of his caliber for the minimum.
