Stephen Curry On Potentially Winning A Finals MVP Award: “It Would Mean Everything”

Stephen Curry is yet to win his first Finals MVP trophy despite having gone to six NBA Finals and winning three rings altogether. Andre Iguodala took home the Finals MVP award in 2015, while Kevin Durant edged Curry in both the 2017 and 2018 NBA Finals.

This year, it’s hard to see a scenario where Curry doesn’t win the Finals MVP if the Warriors win it all. He’s unquestionably the best player of the Warriors and is currently averaging 31.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game on 45.7% shooting from the field against the Boston Celtics in this series.

Now, in a recent interview, Curry sat down with ESPN’s Malika Andrews and opened up about what does winning a Finals MVP trophy would mean to him. While Curry reiterate that winning is the top priority, he described that winning the individual award would mean everything.

“It would mean everything, because that pretty much means you’re winning the series. You think about when Andre won, when KD won his two, there’s just so much joy in that moment. No matter who wins it, there’s so much joy in that moment, you wanna be able to experience it. And I think the context of every series changes in terms of what it’s gonna take to actually win, and I think for us to win this championship, get three more wins, and hold that Larry O’Brian trophy, I’m gonna have to keep playing the way I am.”

He added, “That smaller trophy isn’t the motivation at all. But you know what comes with winning the big one, and what it takes to do that. So I’m focused on that. The fact that I have another opportunity, and we have another opportunity to be here on this stage after the conversations over the lat two to three years, that says a lot… So I’m excited about it.”
