Victor Oladipo’s Irrelevant Last-Second Three Pointer Meant Money For Gamblers

Game 7 between the Cavs and Pacers was already cut and dried, when Victory Oladipo made some gamblers jump out of their seats as if their team had just won the Championship.

You see, the Cleveland Cavaliers led by 7 points with only a few seconds left, and the Pacers out of timeouts. Victor Oladipo got the ball and sprinted over the court for one last time this season and hit a buzzer-beating three pointer. The game ended 105-101.

Most sportsbooks opened Game 7 with the Cavaliers as 6.5-point favorites and closed at either 5 or 5.5. That’s why Oladipo’s 3 was so huge for a lot of gamblers. It cut the Cavaliers’ margin of victory from seven points to four. Johnny Avello, a sportsbook for the Wynn in Las Vegas, said:

“It was probably a swing of $3 million to $5 million in Nevada.”

Since around 70 percent of the money bet on the point spread on the game was on the Pacers, the shot made a lot of people very happy.
