Warriors Uncertain If Andrew Wiggins Will Play Again This Season Due To Personal Matter

Andrew Wiggins has been away from the Warriors since February 14 tending to a personal matter, and it is still unclear when, or even if he’ll be able to return to the team.

Wiggins has already missed the past twelve games and Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said that Wiggins remains without a timeline for a return. Kerr added that while they “hope” he’ll return before the end of the season, it wasn’t a sure thing.

“I think that’s the hope. But really there’s nothing to report on. We’re giving him his space as we’ve talked about as he deals with something more important than the game. If he’s able to come back, that would be great. If not, then that’s the case. Whatever happens, we handle it accordingly.”

Wiggins’ teammate Stephen Curry also was asked about the lengthy absence and said that life is bigger than basketball.

“This is a tough situation with him being away for so long but necessary. Life is bigger than basketball.”

You don’t even need to read between the lines to know that whatever it is Wiggins is going through, it is really, really serious. It is bad enough that there has been zero leakage of the reason of Wiggins’ absence within his own team, but also the entire Warriors, which allows him to handle whatever he and his family are going through in private.

Warriors GM Bob Myers said earlier this month that the team will let Wiggins decide what, if anything, he wants to share once he returns. However long Wiggins remains out, he’ll have the backing of his teammates and the organization.

Whatever Wiggins and his family are going through, our thoughts and prayers are with them.
