Why Kyle Lowry Is the Greatest Player in Raptors Franchise History

Ahead of today’s trade deadline, Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry is among one of the most intriguing, coveted and highly touted players on the market. Lowry is alleged to be on several playoff contending teams’ radar, like the Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers amongst others. 

Amid the trade rumors, Kyle Lowry played what might’ve been his final game as a Raptor Wednesday night. He finished with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists in the win against the Denver Nuggets. Following the win, the post-game interviews were dedicated on getting a clearer picture on the trade rumors. Toronto coach Nick Nurse had this to say when asked about his starting point guard:

“He’ll go down as maybe the greatest Raptor ever, I think.”

Nurse may have a point.

After the Toronto Raptors traded for him in the summer of 2012, he has become second in games played, second in minutes, fourth in field goals, first in 3-pt field goals, first in assists, first in steals, second in points and first in triple doubles in Toronto Raptors franchise history.  Most importantly, he is the all-time Raptors leader in win-shares and playoff wins, aiding the Raptors in their 2019 NBA Championship run. 

Moreover, ever since he joined the Raptors, Toronto is more than 2,500 points better when he’s on the court. When he’s off the court, his team has only outscored their opponents by 40. They’re +2,561 points when he’s playing, and +40 when he’s on the bench. That stat alone shows his impact and importance to the Raptors franchise when playing.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up, but for the most part one thing is for certain, he may very well be the best and greatest player to ever wear a Raptors jersey. Best of luck for the rest of the season Kyle, and thank you for all that you’ve done for the Raptors!
